There many references in the bible in regards to dreams and visions.  Be sure to look them up and read then in complete reference and in context.  All references are in the King James Version.  Also note, that I may not have referenced the complete scripture, so be sure to read the verse around the quotes below, again, keep your reading in context of the verse/chapter to the whole story.  I do find it interesting that during the moving about in the early days of Jesus’ birth, how angels came to Joseph in dreams to tell him what to do next.  God uses dreams as a supernatural telephone of a sort.

Dreams of the Bible

Genesis 20:3 – “But God came to Abimelech in a Dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.”

Genesis 31:10 – “And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled. “

Genesis  31:24 –  “And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.”

Genesis  37:5 – “And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.”

Genesis  40:5 – “And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, which were bound in the prison.”

Genesis  41:15 – “And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.”

Numbers 12:6 – “And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.”

Judges 7:13  -” And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.”

1st Kings 3:5 – “In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.”

1st Kings 3:15 – “And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.”

Jeremiah 23:28  – “The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD. “

Daniel 2:3 – “And the king said unto them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit was troubled to know the dream.”

Daniel 4:5 – “I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.”

Daniel 7:1 – “In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.”

Matthew 1:20 – “But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”

Matthew 2:12  – ”And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.”

Matthew 2:19 – “But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt”

Mathew 27:19  “When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.”

Visions of the Bible

Genesis 15:1  – ”After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”

Numbers 24:4 – “He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:”

Psalms 89:19 – “Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.”

Ezekiel 11:24 – “Afterwards the spirit took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.”

Ezekiel 43:3 – “And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.”

Daniel 7:2  – ”Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. “

Daniel  8:1 – “In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first.”

Daniel  9:21 – “Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.”

Luke 24:23 – “And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.”

Acts 9:10 – “And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.”

Act 10:17  – ”Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate”

Acts 16:9 – “And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.”

Revelations 9:17  – “And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.”  

It seems very conclusive that God uses dreams and visions to communicate to His people.  It is up to us to be open to receive and ready for His blessing.  Dreams allow what would otherwise “scare” us in the natural, seem normal in the supernatural.  If you have had a dream or vision you would like to be considered to be shared on this website, please submit it to via the guidelines on our contact page.
