Too Late Now

By Ryan Hutzel

Sorry

Finding myself in the spare bedroom of my grandparent’s house, except that it did not have any bed in the center of the floor.  The walls seem to have boxes lining them at the outer floor.  This room is about ten-foot by ten-foot room with one window.  The room looks pretty much like it does in person with beige carpeting.  The walls did not appear to have anything on them. If anything, this room has become a storage room in this dream.  In the back right corner, my mother was standing looking at me and my middle brother which was to my left.  Mom proceeded to say, “Your aunt, before she died of a heart attack sad there was something that I needed to hand to you two in this hope chest.”  She reached down, opened the chest, which appeared to be a basic brown box with a hinged lid that opened upward.  After she opened it, she reached down into it and pulled out what appeared to be two greeting card shaped envelopes.  They had my name on one and my brother’s name on the other.  He opened his first.  The card said, I am sorry.  Upon opening mine, it said the same thing.  A feeling of distrust and irritation came over me and my brother, but we said nothing.

Mother, then asked, “Why do you both look so disappointed?”  We both responded in similar words, “It is too late now for apologies, don’t you think?”  I then stated, “Too much time has passed, why would this matter now?”  She looked at us both, seemed confused and asked, “how can you two be so cold?”  The dream ends with me saying, “You cannot change what has been done and is passed.”
