Dream and Vision Types

Some say a dream is random thought in the imagination, while other live by them way too much.  Dreams can lead one on a journey that is a destiny, while other dreams can leave a person lost and confused.  While I will not be focusing on the later, I will say that anytime God gives a dream/vision to a person it is always about edification, even if it is a warning or something bad to come.  He never gives a dream that doesn’t bring some sort of hope in the end.  I encourage you if you have not done so already to visit the Scriptures section of this website to see where in the Bible that God used dreams and visions to do just as I have described.

Webster Dictionary says a Dream in the sense of a noun is:  “a series of thoughts, images, or emotions occurring during sleep”

A Vision is not too much further off:  “something seen in a dream, trance, or ecstasy; especially : a supernatural appearance that conveys a revelation “

Daydreams (Visions):  These happen while completely awake and conscious.  Visions, normally come out of no where, so they seem, while other times are triggered from a light thought.  The oddity to these types of dreams is realizing you may have just drove your car from point A to point B and not knowing how you  did it, but remember all the details of the vision you just saw.  Daydreams, unfortunately unless recorded soon, will have a short shelf life as your daily life move further away, it  may fade too.  I know  this may seem unreal if God were the one to give it, why would I forget it?  We are human with a finite mind, and short term memory is sometimes a flaw.  I will say however if a vision is seen without the mind’s eye and you actually see something before you that nobody else could or did, these types of visions (often found in the bible) will not leave your memory, they are like lucid dreams, however awake.

Lucid Dreams:  Simply to put, it is like you were there.  All five senses can be very well active in this type of dream.  If you were to be asked within this type of dream what is real, you may struggle to know the difference.  These types of dreams, are the very substance God uses to embed his plans in for the long term.  You will, once awake find it difficult to forget anything, and details will be very clear.

Nightmares:  Can’t say that God will not use these types of dreams, however when he does, it is often to drive a point to you that you have ignored deeply in reality that he is trying to warn or tell you.  Often these dreams are pushed to conquer a fear, or face something that you otherwise keep pushing off your conscious while awake.  Sometimes these nightmares are reoccurring until you do something about it.  People who often have un-forgiveness or bitterness in their hearts often have these types of dreams.

Premonition Dreams:  This is a dream where you have had a clear dream of a future based event.  These dreams are often a warning or to warn.  God uses these types of dreams to help people to prepare for future events and/or avoid them if possible.  This type of dream can easily be prophetic, often combining with lucid dream like.

While I am sure there are many other types of dreams, I am not a psychologist either, so this is the basis of which I will be administrating on this website.  Again, please be sure to check out the Scripture section of this site for support in the recorded dreams in the Bible.  Also, as a reminder, don’t place your faith in your dreams, but faith in the One who gave it to you, God.
