Dream of Ranger Station, Danger

Author: Ryan Hutzel

Vast Lake

This dream began in a ranger station high up on a mountain like the Appalachian mountain range. So, there were lots of evergreens and typical greenery that would be expected from the north east section of the U.S.A. I was inside this station, seemed to be a one room open design, rectangular in shape, maybe 15′ x 30′ in size. As I become aware in this dream I was talking to a friend, first person perspective to what seemed to be in mid conversation. I was aware of the content of the conversation. As I looked towards the back of station, there was sink with glass cups sitting beside it, my friend said, “If your thirsty, feel free to clean a glass and grab something to drink.” I noticed the glasses where not just unclean, they had names on them. The labels where obscured from my sight, none the less I grabbed the closest glass, rinsed it out with water from the faucet. There was a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi near the glasses, so I poured some into the glass I had, it was flat, but I was thirsty. Not sure why I didn’t simply take water from the faucet, but this is just the way it played out.

After drinking the Pepsi, my friend and I walked outside, it seemed like a nice day. The air was crisp, reminded me of morning, with a sunny sky, and slight breeze. We were not outside for any more than what seemed like seconds to notice that over towards the right side of the cabin in a distance of what may have been 100 feet give or take were three hunters in camouflage fatigues, boots, long sleeves, and carrying rifles on their shoulders. My friend and I both yelled out at them, we both were saying “You cannot be here, you must leave!” None of the three turned around, only one hunter on the far right turned his head slightly as they kept walking with a slight sideways glance. They seemed to have no fear or respect to our request. My friend then turned to me and said, “We have to go get the pastor, now!” I felt a little confused, I realized in this moment we were not armed, had no weapons to defend ourselves if need be. I ask him, “How?” He stated, “There is a fast exit off the mountain behind the station, follow me.”

We proceeded to go around the back side of the ranger station, to the right and then behind to be specific. He grabbed the only what appeared to be a thick vinyl mat and proceeded to head over to what seemed to be a 5-foot-wide concrete ramp. He said, “This is the only way down, and there is only one mat, sorry.” He sat down and took off. This ramp was very much like a water slide, there was water coming out the top of the ramp going down the mountain. I stood there in a bit of shock, one for the fact he just took off without any regards as to what would happen to me and second, the angle of the ramp was very steep and the very scary looking. You couldn’t see the bottom or end of the slide. For a moment, I stood just staring, I realized there is only one way down, I would have to just take the risk. I sat down and pushed off. From this point, it didn’t feel natural, I don’t remember feeling the water under me, the speed was intense, I screamed like it was a first time on a roller coaster. Everything went by so fast; I couldn’t focus on anything passing me. It seemed like no time at all that I exited the bottom of the slide to what appeared to be a very vast lake.

Exiting the ramp, I started to skip, what seemed in a controlled fashion on my bottom and backside across the lake. I saw my friend, he was only half way to swimming towards the sure on my right, probably still had a football field length yet to swim. I saw in the distance where he was swimming towards was something like huts, a boat dock, houses. I couldn’t see much, all this happened in seconds. In those seconds, I thought to myself, maybe I need to try to stop and go the direction he is. I tried, I turn to the right, as I was skipping like a rock in very shallow hops and large distances, lowered my hand into the lake, it was then I realized, I am being accelerated, pushed. The water plowed very fast through my fingers as I attempted to change the direction I was going. It wasn’t a natural force that kept me going, it was something else, not visible. I had no way to stop, no way to direct myself. During the next moment, I looked towards the center of the lake that I was headed towards at a very fast speed, I noticed it wasn’t shallow, it was dark and deep. Couldn’t help but to wander if I stop, would I even survive the swim to any of the surround land. At this moment, a voice echoed in my head saying, “You are going over there.” I was looking straight ahead, at the furthest distance from where I began, the lake was longer than it was wide, but still vast. I could see the other side, but it wasn’t clear due to distance what is there. In this last moment, I remembered my friend, as he was swimming, I am being taken elsewhere. It was here, the dream ended, with me still being moved to the other side.
